yes

may your first yes be to yourself
yes, you are enough
yes, you are worth it
yes, you complete your own self
yes, you are ready
yes, you will learn from mistakes
yes, you can trust you

I missed my chance
to be my first yes
but I won’t miss this one

yes

Poem 15: A Tribute to Emily Dickinson  “Berries”

I taste a concoction

An investment of time

sublime. In the elegance of the heritage crystal

Of berries so rich and royal

Such potency!

The family room

Takes on an air of inebriation

Like the carpet is dewed

with aged cherry

a merry playful mist ensues

There are words of nectar

Wine and fortification

Going to fine Inns

To carry on this rousing

Shall there be but more?

This, the soup of hope

In nature’s bowl

Our souls the spoon of courage

And wonder

Rimmed with idle curiosity

Sweet and sour

The pain of what draws me

And the joy of dawning retreat

The victory of my shelter

Whether wood or a broken heart

The little miracles

In frantic flight

The sight of buzzing Bees

In their visitation

of fragrant passing

Tasting

a part of me

Hour Fourteen ~ With Children With Joy ~

Prompt

Even if you have children, write poems about imaginary ones.

My way of having fun
would be with children
playing in Winters
in the sun…
feeling joy and peace
The toys would be paper
and color pencils
or crayons
In Summers watching
sunsets and stars
finding constellations
would be Treasure Hunt

Fun would be among the trees
or watching a flower show
each child itself like
a flower so
no shopping no buying
though chocolate cake
or brownies would be OK

guessing objects in a bag
in circle time tags
thanking asking telling
sharing helping caring
each to feel equal and
each to be good
each to have respect
each to have understood

my way of having fun
would be to be with children
all happy,all at peace
no bombs or a gun

We Need – hour 13

Reason to forgo food we need

we need not question why, indeed

our bodies we need not to die

good nutrition we need, says I.

We need to keep our bodies sharp

distraction keeps the fridge light dark

a mantra we need to set the spark

and good friends to keep from worry’s murk.

We need to make amends always

a God we need to help and pray

and when we’re in a very bad way

we need to breathe

and review the day.

Good sleep we need to keep alive

and meditation to revive

we need just to count to five

before making decisions so contrived.

We need to draft a plan forthright

to make sound choices day and night

and stop the eating at days end

or if we can’t, we text a friend.

We need to read and write about

things that helped the others out

stories of mind and body’s wins

freedom from food outside and in.

We need a mentor by our side

who will guide and we need confide

and contact quick when thoughts collide

to discover doors food tries to hide.

We need to meet and serve our peers

to help our friends, confront our fears

and when we need a hug, or ear

come back again, they’re always near.

Change with Yes

I wish I said yes instead of the maybe.
Everyone else did it.

please make sure to say yes instead.

It will change your life.

Hour 14: Rounding Corners

I crane my head and stare up at the

camera mounted on the side

of a gleaming new high rise

A little me is caught momentarily

in a rounded black mirror

Whose charge is it to monitor

the closed circuit broadcast

while i’m strafing slightly at street corners

pausing to intuit the most advantageous route

Do they watch me like a tv?

I used to cover the front-facing

cameras on laptops and phones

with a pit of scotch tape

hoping that it would foil

any attempts at surveillance

I often watch people

Involuntarily out of the corners of my eye

I was taught early that trust is a luxury

This impropriety is hardwired in

And has me listening

for the messages in inflections

the erectness in the spine

the buckling of shoulders

of a passerby

How wide, long,

and quick

are the footsteps on

the sidewalk?

Gobbling up these hints

Hoping that, collectively,

They will answer the question:

We cool?

And if not,

I would rather be grounded

And present enough

to ask the question:

What would it take

to be able to look at each other

directly in the eye

on equal footing?

Hour Eleven

Prompt 11:

Scattered

What can a needle do? Use it as a sword to weave your words.

What can gumboots do? To keep you dry out of mist of deep words.

Having anger issues? Beat the paper and produce ideas.

Spread your thoughts, don’t stay limited.

Sky is incomplete without clouds, be one and add charm to the world.

Friday Night

A Nonet

Friday Night

Sitting on the couch drinking a beer.

TV remote clutched in my hand.

Flipping through endless channels.

Wishing for something good.

Wanting a ballgame.

Just nothing’s on.

What the hell?!

More beer.

Burp!
