Eye of the Tiger Marathon

Eye of the tiger
nose of the elephant;
the whole thing is just a circus,

and I the 17th clown out of the car
with pockets full of balloons in wait
and shoes too big to crawl out of the looking glass
you threw me through
when the show began 24 hours ago

only to close now,
though surely not forever more.
But no more now.

Show’s over.
Sleep calls.
any louder and I’ll never
get there.

So there you go,
and I go.

The end.

Bat Out Of Hell [Prompt 30]

Like a bat out of hell!

Teenage years,
Our angst …
Our emotional blow-up!
Do we run?
Should we stay,
Or should we go?
Questions!
We sought to arrive,
so fast,
at last!
We would wake up,
to go go!
Like a bat out of hell!
A Rebel Yell!
We felt it all!
We lived in a material world…
with big hair,
neon, day-glo and blow!
Being like a virgin,
protected us,
to some degree …
I was (am) the Warrior!
Born to be wild;
…with a white wedding!
When I was really,
Slow dancin’,
swayin’ to the music.
Hell really was for children.
Time after time, though,
It was paradise by the dashboard light.
We are the champions,
we survived the 80s, acne, AIDS.
We told them all …
Leave us alone,
it’s my life!

23. Father Figure

Father

Father

You taught me how to throw a spiral football.

How to play tennis, and golf, and so many other sports I can hardly keep count.

When it came to tennis you are always willing to play.

I wish I understood football more, not soccer so much, my younger brother taught me that.

I wish we were closer now that you moved.

You and mom are as far away as you can be, but thanks to technology we can talk and video chat when you are free.

You’ve read so many books that I envied your tenacity lovingly.

“The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran, Historic novels by James Michener, even “The Hobbit” …

One day I’ll get to them all…or at least a few.

In the meantime I’ll take up a basketball game when my body heals and celebrate the Raptors winning the championship…

Signal from Space

It’s the pinnacle, the ultimate moment
The jukebox is playing all the hits
We’ve left our troubles on the red planet
Our pain and suffering is all but gone
You and I have been numb for too long

They could build a solid concrete wall
A wall supported by foundations, steel
But nothing could dampen our spirits
Yes, we’re unfamiliar and perplexing
But our material bodies are fading

The creatures outside have restrained us
But we, too, have been preparing to fly
So, yes, it’s happening now, ready?
Tie your shoes and set the Twinkie down
You, me, and the dog will transcend today

23. The Messenger XXIII

Nature is my home,

My temple and my Soul

I am born here,

Sent from far Space

Searching for Love

Everywhere in the Cosmos

Only to find it when

I stop, stay still and

Almost sleep

Then I can clearly feel it

Beating in all my cells

And being in Joy exploding

24. Love more

Love is so much more than I could ever understand.

I thought I would have to cry.

I believed I would have to hurt.

I imagined it would be a strain.

I was never so wrong.

Our love was not born in vain.

True I did all the above.

I know it’s hard to judge.

I had no need to be jealous or heartbroken in the least.

Your love always made me feel light as a dove,

Even when I thought I was not good enough for love.

The kindness you gave to me I was not ready for.

Your heart is strong like your love.

I have to protect it from any harm.

Thanking God from above.

I cherish so much more than I can say.

I live in gratitude each day.

He Waits

manipulation is the key to survival

she knows how to play the game

forever be the child

Wendy to his Peter Pan

simpering lips

eyes evoking sorrow

hiding purpose

demanding respect

earning none

threats executed

promises kept

broken hearts cast aside

she hunts for new game by the sea

bikini clad beauty hiding a corrupt heart

that feels no pain

incapable of empathy

no room in her malevolent nature

for pity though revenge satisfies

his feet don’t touch the ground

but he has not flown to serenity

Hanging in the barn

he waits for discovery in vain

she has no inclination to linger

no desire for reconciliation

What we saved from the fire

Never let a blind man
tell you he can’t see
what must be seen.
The treasure you seek
doesn’t deserve you.
Can you love me?
This infernal fertile
marsh hovers in my mind.
Fade and fade and
establish subservience.
A puff of light, and I’ll
be gone. Will you
love me then?
