do you remember

sweat, wet bodies

the rain came down. do you remember? cool earth under

your feet. hot air weighing us down

the thick atmosphere squeezing

the rain striking the thin roof

do you remember the heat?from that fire

extinguished that night.

we were pressed together, close

we awoke and we trekked

i saw the range and the lake.

when i looked at you I saw Everything

what did You see?

The River

I want to pass through the other banks, where it’s winding and narrow.
Where I can freely slide down the mountains and hills,
Cascading through the boulders of rocks and creeping in between the sleepy pebbles.
To my senses, it is numbing and very relaxing, with the cool breeze twirling.
The flowing of my current become slow in tempo and very soothing to hear like,
A lullaby to a tired souls.

i want to cross and meet the other streams and playfully run together in harmony

among the bushes and trees causing wildfire.

in bended knees, praying in solitude asking to rescue them from drought.

Destiny

Waiting, patiently waiting, for direction, for a sign.

Showing me my purpose, what is meant to be mine.

Darkness turns to light, as the sun begins to shine.

Revealing my true destiny, of God’s own design.

The Elements Prayer

That the Earth rotates gentle everyday

That Breeze blows new strength

That the Sun brings me diurnal energy

That the Rain washes away my concerns

That I live the present

That I learn from the past

That I not worry about the future

That I am the best version of me!

(Hour One – Maritza M. Mejia)

Poem 1

One Two, I don’t know what to do
Three Four, I can’t take it anymore
Five Six, I know I am sick
Seven Eight, I can’t escape
Nine Ten, I am stuck in my head

1 – life –

This earth, she burns my feet

she swallows me in her endless seas

she spews me, fire heated and flowing.

I push my snake like body to the ocean

I rest, l grow, l sleep, I am time becoming history.

She sings to me, a murmur against my skin,

and l fly a spirit in her wind, dive, drift, flow.

Elemental

And it was glorious while it lasted, she thought:

The honest, earthy smell of the sheets the mornings after,

The way her fears could disperse on the breeze of his smile.

Eventually, as these things happen,

It was lost in a fire of temper and a wave of hot, bitter tears —

And she wondered if she would ever again

Have a love so elemental.

Elemental -Prompt 1

Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire,

fueling all that we desire.

And yet that base is often attacked.

Yes, based on history, but more myth than fact.

The world dangles not on elemental ire-

As science has shown whenever we enquire.

Yet still, this spell asks for elements of Earth

With a dash of Air and a touch more self-worth

Because they aren’t elements of the universe,

but rather elements of what we make worse.

Nature based in four small things,

Supposed to give us our spiritual wings.

Perhaps it’s not all that strange?

The fact is whenever we get the urge,

from these elements do power surge.

Palace of Justice

J — man — a threatening man —

lifting weights in lights-out jail — it’s his apartment —

and again

— glistening as we do in want and work —

glistening across his back —  U — S —

glistening black against wormy white skin

— T — on the long slog to this

moment — this computer —

these hands these keys tea cooling left — I

how the body — this body — has plotted and waited

labored and coded — C — elaborate braided

codes tattooed permanent black, ever unseen

— make it —

make it — fixed — who is fair? of them all?

E — waiting.
