The Date – Hour 5

The pavement hot beneath he

sandaled feet, walking briskly,

leather satchel swinging at her side.

Sitting in their favorite space

preparing the wine glass and

cheddar cheese, her favorite.

A lovely knitting gift, a sunflower

blanket beneath her, allowed

her dainty sandals to slide away.

Her satchel hanging on a nail

placed so long ago for just

that reason, on the old oak tree.

She could barely contain

her excitement and wonder

being with him again this day.

Reverently, longingly, lovingly

she pulled out her hardback novel,

opened it, and there he was.

Hour #2 Promises to Keep

I used to misfire as much as I wanted
maybe that’s why the bang bang movies
my Dad watches is my nemesis
I jump like the bullets fired from the guns
demand to watch something funny-
that makes my tummy quake.

Like that small earthquake you felt
when you were only 8 years old

now you still jump,
even though I promise I won’t let
you
as a thirty something year old

You have a job taking care of vulnerable people
so I won’t bring the guns
out to play.
I have promises to keep.

Earth 2122 A Conversation Hour 4

A picture found in the old trash heap.

A mother and child quietly

peruse it together.

Little girl or perhaps boy,

hard to tell beneath the dirty uniform

and still dirtier skin and hair asked,

Momma, what is that?

That’s a piano dear,

you knew that.

The child pointed

to the area beneath, around

and all over the picture.

A sighing mother explained

they were grasses, trees and bushes

the way it used to be.

And that funny color, Momma?

Astonished, anguished eyes

look down into the aged eyes

of her very young child.

Green my child, the color green.

We don’t have that down here.

She wondered if anyone was listening.

My Adorable Misifu

One day arrived

Sick and pale

Asking for care

How can I rufused

This bull of fur

Helpless and fair

My adorable Misifu

Adopted me

What a nice deed

Welcome to my house

And my heart

Adorable Misifu

(Hour 7-@Mejia)

Once more2pm

there are times that I want so bad
to tell my story to someone
ANYONE that would listen
about everything that has happened
to me

–This again?

I have tried so many times
in the past-
but no one listened
why would they?

–I don’t have time for this

they are comfortable in
their ignorance
their perfect little world
where nothing bad ever
happens and no one ever dies
or gets hurt in any way

That’s not the real world
that’s fantasy
I know- I’ve been there

–Have you now?

I’ve been in the world where
no one hurt me-
everyone went on living
even though people were sick
it’s a child like world

–You don’t know the meaning of it

I’ve been hurt
I’ve been touched by death
I’ve had to bury people that I
didn’t think I could survive
without.

–You aren’t special.

I’ve had to relearn things
I’ve had to struggle to get to
where I am right now
I’ve had to hurt
cry
laugh

I was a grownup before I
should have been
I’ve had to pay attention to
things that I shouldn’t have
had until I was married
or that I’ve had no business
to know

–we all have.

You don’t know my story
or my struggle
you haven’t had to go through
MY LIFE
all you know is YOUR life.

Hour 7: A Hundred Dreams Ago

I saw you a hundred dreams ago
There, back on that old wooden bench by the lake

I saw you as you were back when we first met
Just as stunning, just as ethereal

Time had taken a lot from us
The first memories and our youth

But how can it take away
What’s in our hearts since forever?

I saw you a hundred dreams ago
Just as the day when we met

Just as stunning, just as ethereal
And I fell in love once again.

Hour seven

The thunder claps did not
bother, the pouring rain
could not dampen
our spirits as we
frolicked on our
first weekend as newlyweds

we’ve come here
before with
the children and didn’t
we tear our hair
pandering to their
every need

now it’s different
we’re different
the mirror speaks
longer to each of us
than we do with
each other

there’s love yet
it’s not the same
why
