Intoduction

Hi Everyone!

My name’s Maxine and I’m from Ottawa, Canada. I’ve been writing poetry for about a decade and am super excited for next Saturday. 🙂 Doing the half marathon and this will be my first time doing any challenge of this sort. Can’t wait to read all of your work and share my own. My poems tend to focus on Geography – the world and our relationships with it. So ready to challenge myself!

Half Marathon Challenge

Hello,

This is my first attempt at any type of sustained poetry writing. The half-marathon is about my speed. I am looking forward to this as it will force me to write continuously. Can’t wait to get started and also see what others have written

intro

Hi friends!

I’m looking forward to taking on this challenge with you. For national poetry month, I did a 30 poems in 30 days challenge, and it really helped to expand my work. Some days I was just going through the motions, but I was also pleasantly surprised to find that I was inspired more often than I thought I would be. I’m hoping for the same with this challenge. I think the rapid pace of the marathon will help me get out of my head and let the words flow freely. I’m doing the half marathon because I’m a beast if I don’t sleep! Good luck to everyone!

Dave Hirsh Introduction

This is the first year I am participating in the poetry marathon.  I’ve been writing poetry, or at least what I call poetry, since I was in elementary school.  I post poetry on youtube and facebook, sometimes with music.  I enjoy reading poetry aloud, and reading poetry and listening to other poets recite their own work and the work of others.   Writing poetry for me is a process.  I think about a few lines for a few days until I am comfortable with those lines and then I write them down and write around those lines.  Once I have a first draft,  I edit until I feel comfortable that the effect is what I wanted.   Because the marathon compresses my usual timeline, not giving me the opportunity to edit,  I am a little nervous about the output.   I hope I have internalized enough about what I am attempting to achieve in a poem to write at least a few worthy poem.  Thank you for the opportunity.    I look forward to June 26, 2021.

One Week To Go!

Aloha All!

One week to go! I am so excited about this year’s marathon! I have been setting that 1 hour timer and practicing. Next… snack shopping! Welcome all to the 2021 Poetry Marathon! See you in there!

Introduction from Ingrid

Hi Again! My name is Ingrid Exner.  This will be my 4th or 5th poetry half marathon and I am as excited as I was the first time. Today, I am preparing by stocking up on some goodies and reviewing how to Create A Post and Comment! My best advice for those first timers is to do some preparations before the day (such as reviewing the functions of the site/ WordPress), purchase a few convenient groceries and do the housework or chores before the event! See you all tomorrow! Good luck and have fun everyone!

Hello again!

Hey Marathoners!

This will be my fourth year participating in the marathon. I have always done the full marathon, and plan to this year as well. My biggest tip to anyone else is to make sure you’ve got plenty of snacks and that they are either prepared in advance or easy to assemble. I always spend much longer writing during each hour than I expect. For first timers, don’t be fooled! This is harder than you think! But so incredibly beneficial and enjoyable. And to everyone, remember, beware of the nap!

I wish the best of luck to all of my fellow writers! Not much time to go!

Stay hydrated,
