Googled fireflies and was not disappointed

There are more than 2000 species of fireflies
that exist in the world today
sending light signals into the skies
to attract mates or prey
there are two types vying for my favorite spot
tropical fireflies, thar can sychronize the glownig
(I imagine that’s what kind was floating while ariel and eric were out rowing)
or the femme fatale firefly, which shoots its shot
by posing as from another type of firefly
and then promptly eating any male that comes by.

The Dots-Hour 23-firefly image poetry prompt

I leave a trail of dots in the bathroom as i look for a sanitary napkin in the shelf. Later that day, my son asks me soothingly what colour is the blood of ants. I couldn’t tell. I didn’t know if squeezed out of them,  would they trickle to the soil leaving a trail that can only be smudged by the heavy feet we humans possess? I didn’t know. So, i told him about stars and fireflies tracing each of their pathways, bleeding energy till nothing more is left. Looking back at them, my son would say when he is eighteen, forty-eight, eighty-eight that they are the dots that make…

I wait quietly as my son peeps into the bathroom and asks me anxiously, if i am sick. I look at him deeply, unknotting the chord that holds him back now.

Christmas Bitter–6am

This time of year
always meant so much
to me
for so long

Cookies and Christmas trees
decorations and snow
even presents and family
to yell with-
oh the chaos

I’m not gonna lie
It’s really hard this year
even though you’ve been
gone awhile-
stills cuts like glass
everyday

Bitter
so very bitter
everyone else is happy
WHAT ABOUT ME DAMNIT?!

Some days it doesn’t seem
like you’ve gone and others
well–
it’s the end of the world and
I don’t know how I’m going to
survive

This year I don’t care
about presents or
family or even
the food-

I just want to be left alone
I just want to be quiet awhile
want someone to understand
my pain
hurt
lonliness
and no one will

Dragging christmas trees
baking cookies and pies
music and impatiently waiting
laughter and the tears
even the anger

not those

mistletoe
presents
and snow
nope- not that either

there’s a difference
in my heart
my attitude
I barely notice it

so discontent
crying
where is my peace

What more is there
to my life
what more do I have to
look forward to?

Hour 15 (2021)

I’ve wasted so much time
saying yes to people
who don’t deserve it,
that I’ve been saying no
to myself without
a second thought.
It’s time for a change.

Hour 18

May it be light!

Light is so important-no matter if

it is natural or artificial. Why?

Because it allows us to see people, things

and even ourselves, as we are deep within.

Hour 22: Alarm

It’s the time
Come on, raise up
It’s the time

Don’t fall asleep
It has not finished
it is almost done

Wake up! You have been napping
Wake up please
Wake up please

You need to wake up
I am your alarm
Wake up to reach your goal
Wake up to see new opportunities
Wake up, wake yourself up
You haven’t done yet

Hour 21

Sunflower

Yellow and tall

As if trying to reach their namesake

Sunflowers stretch out to the sky

As if they are reaching hands

To the stars

To the clouds

To someone far away

But right there

And that is how some friendships are

My hands reaching out

Their hands out waiting

And now we are here

In sunflowers

In friendship

Hour 23: Time Loop

(POV: because I read one too many conspiracy theories…. The Poetry Marathon is stuck in a time loop. Even after completing it again and again, the time reverts back to the 23rd hour. The poet’s realise this but the memories reset with each time loop… Disorientation, delusion and chaos ensues)

Time Loop

I am not sure how much time has passed
It always comes back to the 23rd hour
This endless loop, of thinking, writing, realising…
Realising — I have done this before
Not a deja vu, I assure
The time, it’s strange and we were just caught
In a mischief it planned
Or was it someone else?
A Halfer?
A Quitter?
Who can say?
Just a single fact remains…
It always comes back to the 23rd hour
This endless loop, of thinking, writing, realising…
Realising —
???
