The Cliffs of A’tuin – Prompt 22, Hour 22

Where could I live
the thought crossed my mind
as sands slipped
and stars shined.
Late at night,
though early for some,
I imagined a home
and how that home would come.
The sun would set
just out of sight,
not too intense
while water crashed
refracting the light
and waves fell on
black sand.
I could live there,
I mused, as family
moved around.
I could leave this mess behind
and live in a cave by the sea.
Oh, how peaceful that would be.
Alas, no, it’s not a future,
not for me,
for they’d come to find me
with debts and plans
and hare-brained schemes
to ruin my tranquility.
They’d come to find me
and it would no longer be home.

Packaged

Clamour around, so many self-professed,
Illuminate-for-hire, here and there too,
Shared light captured in boxes
Resold as an echo
Leaving all just to hope.
Used car resale commission spirit mercenary
In a culture so cut up for gain
Brightness ironically to be pre packed
Delved out and stocks there sold
Even if the box is empty still.

Sheltering Wings

A single white feather
lets me know you are near.

I’ve asked you for signs,
but they weren’t always clear.

This is a sign
that can comfort the doubtful.

You have sheltering wings
and for this I’m so grateful.

Hour 22 (2020)

through the wet rocks

on to the sand

the island’s landing

to the center

the island’s portal

into the wet rocks

on to the sand

the island’s landing

to the center

the island’s portal

stand outstretched, bathed in sun

until the day is done

without sun the cycle trudges on

Heart Gallery (HR 22)

Welcome to my heart gallery
Let me take you on a tour
It all began inside my mother’s womb
Perfectly designed by the Father
Beating, designed to give me life
Once I made my exit into this world
My mother could no longer protect it
Here, to your right is the first sign of damage
It’s a little bruised but nowhere close to shattered
The description reads,
“The day her dad abandoned her”
Now to your left you will notice the damage is little more intense
Description reads,
“Abuse from someone who was supposed to love her”
Down the hall the damage has turned to small cracks from it being mishandled
If you look closely it reads,
“Suicide is never the answer”
Across from this one the damage is extremely noticeable
The description states,
“Gave to the wrong person. He used her and turned her into a single mother”
Behind this glass, this one is shattered but still in one piece
This one reads,
“Losing loved ones can you leave you hollow. Fragile, hold with caution”
As you can see in this glass case
This one has been completely broken
The description states,
“This is what happens when you lose your mother”
In this room you’ll see it’s been put back together
Cracks are still visible, held together with superglue
This plaque quotes,
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13”
Let me end this tour with a reminder
Life won’t always give you kindness
Some people will love you
And some will come to kill, steal, and destroy you
But God has the finally say so in your ending
You can either let circumstances break you
Are you can use those trials and be an inspiration
Give it all to God and let Him heal you
As long as He gives you breath
You have a chance to start over
Thank you for coming!

22 – Bless the Muse

Bless the Muse who stayed by my side

tapping my shoulder

whispering in my ear

offering words when my tongue was parched

and my mind empty.

I will send you

silver strands from my head

on the backs of Sunday breezes

in gratitude for your encouragement

and lyrics when I had none.

these little gifts

these little gifts remind me that I am never alone:

feathers are connections to those beings who

see the world above the little things that seem most able to ground us –

make us small

when we ought to celebrate the teachings

of those winged ones who teach us courage and humility

all at once.

I am made stronger

knowing these little gifts love me

when I love them back.

Prompt #21: A Pillow

Leave it to a contest to tease you on the home stretch.
With just four posts remaining,
Without substantial sleep since the night before last,
Now they ask what we want most?
But of course, I want to set my head on my pillow the most.
It is but a simple thing.
Something easily done.
But for the insomniac writer,
Or the writer of a contest,
A pillow simply becomes the thing most wanted.

Misty Mountain

Misty mountains in the morning dew.

Shine the light of the sun and the moon.

Majestic and strong.

Even when we are gone.

H. 22 – The door to the sun

In the distance the rock  rests, against sky

A landscape dressed in shades of earth,

we wander closer , to gaze through the time

worn arch,  a window into  a dreamy sky.

Waiting always for the sunset to warm its weary

bones, to fill it with with summer light.
