21 Making Time For Fun

I have to get these modules done,

Required by the district.

I only have four more to go,

and then I’ll rest more easily.

I’m learning how to do cool things,

Technology is great.

But pushing to the very end

The fun turns into hate.

I’m looking forward to some sleep,

I’m looking for some fun.

Time to rest and time to think,

To have more outdoor sun.

I’m going to get my work all done.

So poetry will be.

The only thing I think about.

I’ll write it all for me.

Hour 21 – Embrace It

Embrace It

Fifteen weeks of isolation
In my hovel all alone
Keeping careful six-foot distance
Is more space than I have known

What want now is to touch you
Wrap you in a big bear hug
Feel your arms about my person
Cuddle in all warm and snug

How long? How long can this go on?
How long can I stand this fate?
Wanting nothing but to be touched
Caught in this ceaseless mandate

The Hyde Effect (Prompt 12)

“Let’s get the hell out of here.”

Let’s start from somewhere pleasant, the present is better than the past
Better than the last but I’ll try not to get my hopes up
The unresolved teenager in me wants to throw all of her chips in
Best to leave that decision with the jaded skeptical “adult”
How the hell am I an adult and further more
A caregiver

Somehow pulls it all together
Don’t take composure out of context
The next steps are uncertain
Each new person is a threat
Can’t place bets on another big bad wolf while my house is still unsteady
I don’t know how to bring you here
Or how to tell if I am ready to be blown down again

Half Marathon My Hour 9

I keep finding interesting words I’ve saved or that are on the dictionary. So I keep having to use them!

Abience

Some people pull away from hard things

Or avoid too much noise

Or too much light

But I turn away from you

I hide from you

Keep myself from being too close

I withdraw from what I feel

Because how could you feel the same

So I move away from you

I stay just me and watch you

Hour 21, Longing

Ten years ago I walked my way
back to health again,
seventy-five pounds lost
on the country roads
near our home, music fuelling
my feet.

Heavy metal accelerated my pace,
blues was my cool down of choice.
Smooth, even, swift steps daily
melted pounds and anxieties away.

I long to be that person again,
healthy, balanced, confident, and free.

Spite Light

Can you see?

Shall I turn on the light?

Are you scared?

Shall I turn on the light?

Are you lost?

Shall I turn on the light?

Have you lost something other than yourself?

Shall I turn on the light?

I won’t.

You are a light

Guide yourself home.

Never ending road

The skies gone grey,

Its about to rain,

Not raining yet,

Wild wind on my face,

A long road,

A never ending,

I walk or drive,

Just see the sunrise,

Dip my feet in sea,

Or immerse myself completely,

Like a never ending song,

Keep walking,

Even if all alone….

FIVE MORE MINUTES. THEN, REVOLUTION! – Hour 21

FIVE MORE MINUTES. THEN, REVOLUTION!

Sleep, the first longing thought springs forth

and then I think how typical

Not just of 5 AM which you could call my moment

but THIS moment in our capitalist dystopia

this WHOLE moment with all its psychotic priorities

Only the quarantined are sick of sleep

Everybody else is just as tired

Just as broke

Just as essential as they were when The Onion was still funny

Just as broken as they were before Teen Vogue was a comrade.

Just as tired. Just as broke. Just as essential.

Just as broken. If not, more.

Oh, but how is Jeff Bezos doing? Cool, cool.

How can I sleep when I’m shaking.

How can I shake if I don’t know why.

Am I afraid? Am I angry?

Am I going to rise up now? Or

will I hide under the covers again,

and if I know that about myself

how can I even look you in the eye and say

“I need more sleep” ?

Poem 21 | {Sleep}

Prompt 21; Hour 21: Write a poem about what you are longing for most right now.

_______________________________________________________________

{Sleep}

Sleep tantalises me
teasing and cajoling
crooning her ancient melodies
once sung by the Sirens
in attempting to lure Ulysses
to his peril on the treacherous rocks
Her voice is tender and sweet
but when I longingly reach for her
she swirls out of my grasp.
Now, hour upon hour
I am compelled to chase her
As between each stolen snippet
of unconscious reverie
I am tormented by a torrent
of evocative words
that swirl and leap
from my weary mind
and plead to be written
lest they are lost
to the watery depths
of the underworld

Coffee

Coffee

Storm brews in the beans
Gathering a smell of chaos
The froth at the top
Is stirred up and laid down
The cup that holds the brew
Waits for an airlift…
And melted coffee mellows in the mouth
